mediary announces NHS Primary Care Mediary User Group advisory board.
Dateline September 18, 2006 London.
Dr. James Kingsland announced as Chairman
It is announced that Dr. James Kingsland is appointed Chairman of the NHS Primary Care Mediary User Group Advisory Board. Dr. Kingsland is also Chairman of the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) and a practising General Medical Practitioner in North West England. The User Group Board of Advisors will consist of five of the UK’s leading Primary Care Practice Managers.
The role of this advisory board is to ensure the full transparency of this service to the rapidly growing NHS Primary Care Practice mediary users, now c. 700 registered practices. This group will advise on the endorsement of ‘Best practice’ in using the mediary ‘workflow’ system and will support the users as the medical industry adopts this communication service.
The mediary communication service consists of a workflow solution with an electronic diary for primary care practices and a web site for many of the 10,000 UK medical representatives to access their meetings and appointments online. Immediate benefits are foreseen and increasingly as ‘Practice based Commissioning’ become a reality in primary care.
The service is forecast to save the NHS Primary Care Practices as much as £100 million of time over the next five years releasing administrative staff burden for more patient focussed time.
The Pharmaceutical Industry has field forces numbering around 10,000 people calling on primary care practices at a cost of approximately £1Billion per year. The mediary service can save a substantial part of the travel, waiting time, and administrative cost of this workforce.
The mediary NHS Primary Care Users Group Advisory Board compliments the mediary independent industry advisory board chaired by Gerald Malone former Minister of Health which is designed to maintain transparency of the service for the medical industry.
Gerald Malone said “I welcome the NHS Primary Care mediary users advisory board and particularly appreciate the time and support given by Dr James Kingsland. In view of his role as chairman of the National Association of Primary Care no-one could be better positioned to appreciate the efficiency of this service for both practices and the medical industry.”
Editors Note: in April 2004 Wales Fund Managers, on behalf of Finance Wales Equity Fund, led a syndicate of investors, with Hafren Ventures and Finance Wales Mezzanine Fund, providing funding to ‘mediary’. Funding included Regional Selective Assistance from the National Assembly for Wales as well as founders and directors personal investment. Initial capital of £1.25M has since had subsequent investment and the company now plans a stock exchange listing in 2007.
mediary’s electronic diary is registered with c. 700 primary care practices with c. 50 per month joining currently. 1,370 medical representatives from 74 field forces are registered to use the service. Significantly more appointments are now made online than by traditional methods in these practices.
